Mrs. Tammala Brooks
Engineer of the Year
Tammala (Tammy) Brooks serves as Senior Project Group Leader and Vice President at Fifth Third Bank, where she oversees construction management of the Retail Southeast Expansion Program—an initiative to open 200 banking centers within several years. She leads a team comprising Portfolio Leaders and
Project Managers who guide projects from site selection through design development and construction, efficiently managing the annual budget of $200 million.
Prior to joining Fifth Third Bank, Mrs. Brooks held the position of Senior Project Engineer at General Motors Corporation, successfully leading engine cooling and exhaust system vehicle testing in Detroit.
She transitioned into the construction sector as Operations Manager for a family-owned firm in Indianapolis, managing multiple projects before heading the mechanical division, with responsibility for recruiting and training employees.
Mrs. Brooks holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tuskegee University.
She is married and has three daughters; STEM and HBCU culture play a significant role in her family, with her spouse and children holding degrees in electrical engineering, veterinary medicine, mechanical engineering, and architecture from HBCUs.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Mrs. Brooks enjoys line dancing, travelling, reading, and board games with her family. She actively contributes to various organizations, including serving on the facilities board of the Cincinnati YWCA, acting as Financial Secretary of the Cincinnati Tuskegee Alumni Club, coordinating the Emergency Response Team for the Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., volunteering with Matthew 25 Ministries, and recently committing to oversee construction of the Family Life Center at Corinthian Baptist Church.
Her favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” She is also inspired by the quote: “Teamwork makes the dream work because Together Everyone Achieves More.”
