Mrs. Leslie Lyles
Educator of the Year (K-6)
Leslie Lyles has been married for 20 years and has two beautiful daughters. She is CPS proud, having attended Bond Hill Academy of Math & Science Discovery and Walnut Hills High School. She graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, has a Masters degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago, obtained a Principal Licensure Graduate Certificate, and a Secondary Engineering Education Graduate Certificate from the University of Cincinnati. Her career as a Software Engineer was short lived, but unbeknownst to her, Education was her true calling. Her love for learning brought her full circle back to Bond Hill Academy where she serves as a STEM Teacher, Teacher-in-Charge, Team Leader, Technology Coordinator, STEM Club Advisor, and Mentor Teacher. Her engineering and education background coupled with her desire to see students excel in STEM careers, inspired her to develop a Girls in STEM summer camp for grades 4-6 and to advise 3D Printing and Artificial Intelligence STEM clubs with grants acquired from the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative.
In addition, she was selected as a Fellow participant in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Midwest STEM Teachers Innovation Project, where she was immersed in learning more about STEM technology and presented her learnings at the NSF Noyce Conference. Furthermore, in her work as a District Director for the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM), she facilitated a virtual session for teachers that highlighted the ‘M in STEM’ to showcase the amazing work of other STEM Educators in Cincinnati Public Schools. Leslie strives to bring teachers of diverse backgrounds together to share innovative ideas, loves learning about new technologies that increase student engagement, and works to implement practices that support culturally responsive teaching in Math and STEM classrooms. Leslie Lyles is a change agent that whole-heartedly believes that educators are tasked with exposing brilliance and empowering every child they teach.
