Mrs. Jocelyn Whitfield

Technologist of the Year

Jocelyn Whitfield, Director of Information Security Engineering at Fifth Third Bank currently works as a strategic leader in the organization revolutionizing and modernizing Customer Identity and keeping the consumer customers money safe whenever banking online.  At The Bank, she has been awarded the “Incubating Talent” award for her mentorship and career development efforts with both female and underrepresented minorities engineers in the workplace.  Jocelyn has achieved a number of professional IT designations such as the Amazon Certified Solutions Architect Associate, Amazon Certified Developer Associate, Amazon Certified Cloud Practitioner and is currently working on her Cloud Security Specialist Certification.  Jocelyn received her Masters in Business Informatics (Software Development and Information Security) from Northern Kentucky University and her B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.  She is also a graduate of the Greater Cincinnati Urban Leagues Leadership Development Program (Class XV) and a graduate of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Women’s Executive Leadership Program (Class 17). 

Jocelyn is a 21+ year, 2-time breast cancer survivor who credits her survival to self-awareness, the benefits of early detection, and being her own biggest health advocate.  She gained her first experiences in community involvement through the leadership opportunities she engaged in with the National Society of Black Engineers, the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio, Sisters Network Cincinnati, Sisters Network Dayton, and Mommy Has Breast Cancer.  Jocelyn is a resident of College Hill, OH and has two adult daughters, one a junior at Miami University Oxford, and the other starting her career as a Junior Software Engineer also in banking.  In her free time she enjoys exercising, travelling, wine tastings and hanging out with friends.  She is a firm believer that the obstacles we face in life are just “stepping stones” to help us ascend to the places we want to reach in life.
