Engineer of the Year

Nana Abbiw Jackson (Abbiw) has always had a love of math, science, and engineering since his adolescent years. His mother used to question him as to why he would take apart his remote-controlled cars, only to put them back together again repeatedly. This sparked a passion that led him to many summers engineering camps throughout his high school years and led him toward the path of an undergraduate engineering degree. Abbiw holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, and a Certification of Project Management from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.

 Abbiw is currently a Sr. Engineering Manager with The Kroger Co. where he manages Capital Projects and Maintenance and Reliability Systems for many of Kroger’s manufacturing plants across the United States. In this role, he is responsible for the growth and development of Project Management amongst Engineers. Additionally, he is the leader of Maintenance and Reliability systems for Dairies, Bakeries, and Grocery product plants. Abbiw has had over 20 years of experience in manufacturing consumer goods and food and beverage with Procter & Gamble (Operations), MARS Wrigley (Operations and Engineering), Boston Beer Co. (Engineering). He is a proven leader skilled in developing and implementing comprehensive systems to solve technical and organizational problems.

 In 2013, Abbiw embarked upon his Project Management Certification by enrolling in Xavier University’s Leadership School to further his career. He earned his CPM and is actively utilizing project management principles in his daily interactions in Manufacturing. He is also very active in his Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. locally in the Delta Gamma Lambda chapter (Cincinnati, OH) where he serves on the 2023 Social Committee, and his home chapter, Tau Alpha Lambda (Accra, Ghana) where he is the Communications Director.

 Abbiw has been married to fellow his wife, fellow engineer Chenoa Jackson, for 17 years and has 2 children, Braylon – 14 and Avery – 11. He volunteers in coaching basketball and flag football for his Son’s teams. He enjoys being physically active by way of biking, running, and lifting weights. His love of almost all sports activities keeps him busy between The Michigan Wolverines and all Teams from Detroit. Abbiw is a lifelong traveler and enjoys taking trips to new locations every year.
